Branding is essential to achieve success as a Boss. For Paris Iman, her self-published books have reached the shelves of Barnes & Noble with the help of her branding. Recently, she had her very own book signing at the Philly Indie Book Fair and the Detroit Hustle & Grind Urban Literary Convention. Below is our exclusive interview with Paris regarding how she has found her own success as an author, with strategic branding:
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I'm a self-published author from Washington, DC. I recently created Author Academy, which is a program geared towards aspiring authors to teach them how to self-publish a premium quality book. I am also a co-author of ‘Authors Uncensored,’ which is a weekly podcast dropping gems when it comes to the controversial topics within the industry.
What are some of the obstacles you faced in creating/building your brand?
The most challenging obstacles I’ve faced while trying to build my brand would be building my publicity, exposure, and customer base as an author.
How has branding changed as your brand progressed?
I eventually invested in a graphic designer, which has made a huge difference as far as posting engaging content, email newsletters, and being overall more accessible to my readers in creating bonds over books.
Why is consistency in branding so important?
Overall, being consistent with your brand helps to build its identity. As for me, being consistent and patient helped me build my audience because I knew I wouldn't blow up overnight. I stayed consistent and that’s how I've successfully built my tribe.
Do you believe incorporating your own personality into your branding has helped or hindered your brand’s growth? Explain.
It has definitely helped my brand's growth in many ways. For so long, I would shy away from the camera! So many people knew my name, they knew who Paris Iman was, but they could never put a face to a name, let alone a personality. It wasn't until I began to create content on TikTok (booktok as we would call it lol). I was simply just being myself! I began talking about my books or doing silly voice overs, and I've gained so many readers from just that. On Facebook, I created a group to do raffles, share short stories, sneak peaks on new books, cover reveals and so much more that also has brought me new readers.
What resources/platforms should bosses utilize for branding/marketing materials?
My favorite platforms would be fivver, vistaprint, and canva.
