Care For Your Hair At Home By Raven Gillus

Sometimes, it can be frustrating when you don’t have the tools or the right information to care for your hair, especially due to salon and beauty supply store shutdowns worldwide during the coronavirus pandemic. Even thinking about wash day can be stressful. We want to tell you, we got you sis! We’re here to give you the 4-1-1 on hair care while in quarantine. Hopefully, these tips can act as a jumpstart to your hair care journey that will continue well after salons and beauty supply stores fully open again.

Choose the right hair products that best suits your hair

Your hair is just as specific to you as your DNA. The color, the texture, the moisture retention all play a part in the uniqueness of your hair. A product that works for someone else may not for you. Before even looking for hair products ask yourself the right questions. Is my hair heat damaged? Do I have color? Do I have low or high porosity hair? Knowing the answers to these questions can make all the difference in helping you find a great product for your needs.

Some product brands to consider in your search include:

Shea Moisture

Mielle Organics

Camille Rose

Miss Jessies

Curls

Detangling the right way

Detangling helps remove knots and tangles that can cause breakage. Before shampooing, let an oil or conditioner of your choice sit on your hair and scalp for 30 minutes or as long as you desire. You can use a brush made for detangling, although it is best to use your fingers.

Maintain hydration

We have a lot more time at home than ever. Take that extra time for more hot oil treatments with natural oils that address your specific concerns and deep conditioning with a plastic cap to cover the hair and leave it on for 30 minutes. Note: Using heat will help the product absorb easier.

Once you are done washing and ready to dry your hair, use a microfiber towel or a t-shirt. Hair is most delicate when wet and using a regular towel can be too harsh leading to breakage.

Try not to do anything drastic

A lot of us who love trying a new look can’t wait to grab the scissors or that box dye and try something new. But you can cut your way into a hair disaster and with color, comes chemicals, and with chemicals comes damage. All of this means harder work for yourself and your stylist. We know a necessary trim is essential to the health of your hair. Trim only single strand knots. Anything further, we recommend holding off until you can get back to the salon to see a professional.

Have fun!

Braids and twists are a great way to change up your look while protecting your hair. Explore YouTube tutorial videos that can help you achieve your desired look. It’s helpful to find a YouTuber with a similar hair type. Also, use colorful scarves or turbans to add to your look. Using satin fabric wont strip the hair of its much-needed moisture.

Hair is very important for women and it should be treated with care. Make this into a journey and further your exploration by doing more research. We hope these hair care tips can limit the stress that can come from caring for your hair while quarantine WOL Bosses!
